Beaches

From the iconic Navagio to the turquoise waters of Gerakas, Zakynthos is home to some of the finest beaches in the Mediterranean.

The most famous beach in Zakynthos and one of the most photographed in the world. A rusted shipwreck lies on a stretch of white pebbles surrounded by towering limestone cliffs. Accessible by boat only.

A hidden cove with deep blue waters and rocky seabeds perfect for snorkelling. Small and secluded, far less crowded than the main beaches. Best enjoyed at a relaxed pace.

Snorkelling Romantic South-east

Xigia (Sulphur Beach)

A one-of-a-kind beach: natural sulphur springs bubble up directly into the sea, making the water silky soft and beneficial for the skin. The smell is strong but the experience is extraordinary.

Attractions

Beyond the beaches, Zakynthos hides history, stunning landscapes and unique viewpoints not to be missed.

A Venetian fortress towering above the town. The walls date back to the 15th century and offer a spectacular panoramic view over the gulf. Free entry, open all day.

Blue Caves

Sea caves in the north-east tip of the island (Cape Skinari). Light filtering through the turquoise water creates extraordinary blue reflections on the cave walls. Reachable only by boat or kayak.

Cameo Island

A tiny private island connected to the mainland by a wooden bridge near Agios Sostis. Famous for its sunset parties and open-air events in summer, it also has a small beach and a relaxed bar.

Solomos Square — Old Town

The heart of Zakynthos Town, with the Solomos Museum, the Church of Saint Dionysios (patron of the island) and the Venetian arcades rebuilt after the 1953 earthquake. Perfect for an evening stroll.

Sea Turtle Museum (ARCHELON)

A rescue and information centre dedicated to the Caretta caretta sea turtle, a protected species that nests on the beaches of Zakynthos. A recommended visit to understand the island's ecosystem.

Bohali Viewpoint

A 180° panorama over Zakynthos Town and its harbour. Easily reachable by car or on foot from the old town. At night the harbour lights make for a spectacular view. Free entry.

Shipwreck Viewpoint (by car)

The dramatic clifftop viewpoint above Navagio Beach, reachable by car via a road near Anafonitria. The view straight down onto the shipwreck and the turquoise bay is one of the most iconic on the island.

Shipwreck Beach (by boat)

The only way to set foot on Navagio Beach is by boat. Excursions depart daily from the ports of Zakynthos Town and Cape Skinari. Trips typically combine the beach with a stop at the Blue Caves.

Anafonitria Monastery

A well-preserved medieval monastery in the north-west of the island, linked to Saint Dionysios, the patron of Zakynthos. The 15th-century tower and peaceful courtyard make it one of the most atmospheric spots on the island.

Ano Gerakari — Church Viewpoint

A small hilltop village in the centre of the island with a church that offers one of the most sweeping panoramic views over Zakynthos. Off the beaten track and far from the tourist crowds — well worth the detour.

Mizithres Panorama

A breathtaking viewpoint on the south-west coast overlooking the Mizithres rocks — two enormous limestone outcrops rising from the sea. Best at sunset, when the light turns the cliffs golden.

Aristeon Olive Press

A traditional olive oil production facility open to visitors, in the village of Lithakia. A fascinating insight into Zakynthos's centuries-old olive oil culture, with tastings of the island's award-winning extra virgin olive oil.

Marathonisi Island

A small uninhabited island in the Gulf of Laganas, reachable by short boat trip from Laganas or Keri. Known as Turtle Island, it is one of the main nesting sites for Caretta caretta sea turtles on Zakynthos. The surrounding waters are excellent for snorkelling among sea grass meadows.

Sunset at Kampi

The clifftop village of Kampi on the west coast is one of the best places on the island to watch the sun set over the Ionian Sea. Several tavernas line the edge of the cliff, making it easy to combine the view with a drink or dinner as the sky turns red and orange.

Monastery of Saint George

A striking clifftop monastery on the west coast, perched above the sea with commanding views over the Ionian. One of the most scenic religious sites on Zakynthos, surrounded by unspoiled landscape and an atmosphere of deep tranquillity.

Millenary Olive Tree of Exo Chora

An ancient olive tree estimated to be over 2,000 years old, standing in the village of Exo Chora in the hills of western Zakynthos. Considered the second oldest olive tree in Greece, it is a living symbol of the island's deep-rooted olive oil culture and a remarkable piece of natural heritage.

National Marine Park of Zakynthos

Established in 1999, the Marine Park protects the Gulf of Laganas and its beaches — one of the most important nesting areas for the Caretta caretta sea turtle in the entire Mediterranean. The park covers sea, beaches and inland zones with strict rules to protect nesting activity. Visitors are welcome but must respect the guidelines.
